Abstract

In the article the historical section of the main stages of life is made and scientific achievements, organizational and public activities of the famous geologist of the doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, professor Volodymyr Khristoforovich Gevorgyan, known in Ukraine and abroad, are presented. The following is a series of scientific interests of V. Kh. Gevorgyan, which is very broad: namely, the litogeny, the geochemistry and mineralogy of sedimentary formations, the genesis of ore deposits and the accumulation of hydrocarbon raw materials, paleogeography, lithostratigraphy, geoecology, sedimentological developments on the basis of the analysis of the balance of matter in the ocean , as well as the interconnection of deep hydrocarbons and mineralized fluids, etc. The authors emphasize the reader’s attention to three new scientific directions in the field of geology of oceans and seas, initiated by Volodymyr Khristoforovich, in Ukraine: 1) «deep fluids and their role in the formation of minerals and bioproduction zones»; 2) «underwater marine geological research» and 3) «geoecological direction». Also, his main scientific works on each of these scientific areas are covered. Much of the article is devoted to the disclosure of the latest theoretical developments V. Kh. Gevorgyan: introduction and substantiation of the new concept - sedimentation transformation and mobilization of sedimentary rocks and deposits due to the influence of deep fluids on them; the role of organic matter in the processes of the authigenous mineralization, its significance for the formation of combustible minerals and to clarify more general issues of carbon cycle in the biosphere of the Earth; one of the models of the revival of the research fleet in Ukraine. Problem Statement and Purpose. Vladimir Khristoforovich Gevorkyan is a well-known researcher in Ukraine and abroad, to whom his scientific works in the field of the geology of oceans and seas have deservedly earned fame, namely in several of its directions, in which he is the founder and co-author. We set a goal in scientific work – at the historical cross-section of the biobibliographic milestones of Vladimir Khristoforovich Gevorkyan to trace his contribution to the formation and development of the geology of oceans and seas of Ukraine (Ukraine). Data & Methods. The materials for this publication were compiled  in the scientific library of the IGN of the NAS of Ukraine, etc., which became the main source of information. Also, various publications about the scientist during the time of independent Ukraine were used. When writing the article, the problem-chronological and comparative-historical methods of research were used, this made it possible to consider the scientific and creative path of V. Kh. Gevorgyan in chronological order. Results. The foregoing gives rise to a number of conclusions: 1. Vladimir Khristoforovich Gevorkyan is an outstanding personality of the IGN of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (NAS of Ukraine), which made a significant contribution to the development of this scientific research institution and oceanological science, namely marine geology, which was founded in the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in 1961 and is currently in a state of stagnation. 2. Scientific developments V. Kh. Gevorkyan differ in relevance and novelty and are developed by his followers. Vladimir Khristoforovich takes a worthy place in the cohort of marine geologists of the Ukrainian SSR (Ukraine), who glorified the IGN of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (NAS of Ukraine) among the geological community of our state. 3. The research and public activities of Vladimir Khristoforovich Gevorgyan in the field of oceanology, in particular in its component – the geology of the oceans and seas, are brought to the scientific community, this is not allowed to «sink» in glory to the glorious name in the geological branch in Ukraine. 4. V. Kh. Gevorgyan’s important achievements are an essential basis for the revival of Ukraine’s research fleet and will contribute to the continuation of the study by the Ukrainian scientists of the bottom of the oceans.
